HOW TO IDENTIFY A GENERATOR
Generators are those among us with an energizing, uplifting presence. They are here to teach us to follow our joy, embrace our passions, and to remind us that life can be light. What is it that creates this energy and the traits of a Generator?
Here I offer a brief overview on how to identify a Generator chart.

DEFINITION
For those new to the practice of Human Design, a quick note here to inform on how all the key properties of a chart are determined - through our definition.
Each chart has a number of ‘defined’ Gates (the numbers on the chart that are highlighted with a dark circle). These defined gates are determined by the position of planets in the sky at two distinct moments - your time of birth and another point in time while you were still in utero.
When there are two Gates defined that are opposite each other in the chart, they form a Channel (see example below). When a Channel is defined in any chart, the two Energy Centers on either side become defined. When looking at a chart, a defined Energy Center is any center that is ‘colored in’.
It is through the various combinations of definition (of which there are millions of possible outcomes) that all the key properties of a chart are determined. Below I outline the key components that create a Generator Energy Type.
1/ THE DEFINED SACRAL
Generators (and Manifesting Generators) are driven, first and foremost, by their Sacral energy and its pure, creative life force. Physically located within the lower abdomen, the Sacral center is a fuel source - it creates a consistent physical energy that allows Generators to do and create in their uplifting way that benefits us all.
As such, the first indication of a Generator chart is the defined Sacral, visually expressed by the second energy center from the bottom of the chart ‘colored in’ (outlined below).
2/ ABSENCE OF A MOTOR-TO-THROAT CONNECTION
Generator’s are not alone in having a defined Sacral, however. This is also a core trait of the Manifesting Generator. It is for this reason that these two Energy Types are very similar in their fundamental operating system, sharing the same Strategy, Signature and Not-Self.
The differentiating factor between Generators and Manifesting Generators is in the flow of energy to the Throat center. A Manifesting Generator will have a strong connection to the Throat, with energy flowing there from a motor center.
There are four motor centers in the Human Design chart - the Ego, the Solar Plexus, the Root and the Sacral. These are the centers that carry a powerful, physical energy in the body.
The Ego creates the energy of willpower.
The Solar Plexus fuels us with powerful emotions.
The Root center is that of pressure and stress, building up in the system to drive us into action.
The Sacral, as we have learned, is the energy of life force.
So all Manifesting Generators will have a clear channel of energy that runs from a defined motor center up to their defined Throat center. This is the aspect that creates a fiery-ness in the MG system and differentiates them from Generators. Therefore, the Generator chart will not have this motor-to-throat connection. Note that the Generator may still have a defined Throat, though the connecting channel will be from a non-motor center.
